WHAT IS A CUPPING OF CHINESE TEA?
The cupping of tea from China is a meeting where we explore the culture of the country where this infusion was created. We discover the climate, the geography, and the terroir of the main tea producing regions of China. We also learn about the harvest time and we make a virtual trip across the country to understand the culture that surrounds the different varieties of tea.
This event is a theoretical and practical activity that includes an audiovisual presentation, in which we will explain the most relevant concepts related to tea, its culture, and the correct way of brewing it, among other topics.
The activity lasts two hours and a half, approximately. This cupping is aimed at the general public that for pleasure or cultural interest wish to know more about tea culture.
After the presentation, there will be an exercise where the participants will experience a guided cupping of four premium loose leaf teas in order to discover the sensory peculiarities of the presented teas.

THE CHINESE LEGEND OF HOW TEA WAS DISCOVERED
In accordance with the legend, around the year 2750 BC, tea was discovered by the Chinese Emperor Shen-Nung, known as “The divine farmer”. When Shen-Nung was resting under a tree, he was given a bowl with hot water to quench his thirst. A gentle breeze touched the leaves of a tea tree, which fell into the bowl of the Emperor. Shen-Nung drank the beverage and he felt refreshed and his body was relaxed, while his mind forgot all his torments. This way Shen-Nung discovered the charm of this beverage and it is said that from then on he encouraged Chinese people to cultivate and prepare the infusion as a daily beverage. Shen-Nung stated: “Tea quenches thirst, lessens the desire to sleep, gladdens, and cheers the heart.”
