WHAT IS THE CUPPING OF JAPANESE TEA?

In this occasion, we suggest exploring the Rising Sun culture with this unique cupping of the main varieties of tea from Japan.

During the first part of this activity, we will analyse the principal characteristics of Japanese tea, its history, producing regions, climate, terrain, and ways of brewing it. We will reveal why Japanese tea is famous and the manners to recognise a good-quality tea.

In the practical part of the event, we will have the opportunity to cup the most important teas from Japan with the harmonisation of pairings specially prepared for this occasion, which are perfect to enhance the sensory profile of each tea. As usual, we will make a careful selection with the highest quality possible to enjoy the whole range of sensations that Japan offers.

There is no need to have previous knowledge on the subject. You only need to make a reservation in advance.

THE JAPANESE LEGEND OF HOW TEA WAS DISCOVERED

In accordance with the legend, in the year 520 AC, Bodhidharma, the twenty-eighth Buddhist patriarch and founder of Zen or Chan Buddhism, travelled from India to China to preach Buddhism, sitting in front of a wall to meditate for nine years. However, one day he fell asleep, and when he woke up enraged for having given in to sleep, he cut off his eyelids and threw them to the floor. In that place, a plant grew, which later would be used as medicine: the tea plant.
